Abstract
Two steel elements, one of which is a bar, are joined into a grid or frame, by providing >=1 of the elements with a bulge or a projection and making the electrical resistance weld between the bulge on one element and the flat surface or bulge on the other element. The grid or frame can be made of longitudinal girders, e.g. with an L-cross-section using round bars as the cross-members; in this case, the ends of the round bars are pref. provided with bulges where the weld is made. The flat surface of a rectangular bar may also be provided with a continuous projection. The purpose of the bulges is to localise the weld into one spot so that adequate penetration is obtd. i.e. standard practice in resistance spot welding. The joining oc concrete reinforcing grids using arc welding produces joints of good quality but the process is slow and expensive, the present invention permits the use of resistance welding which can easily be mechanised for the automatic prodn. of grids.
