Abstract

Appts. for cleaning the surface of water, e.g. in a river at sea, etc., comprisg a suction device situated at a fixed place wrt a screen-type body capable of floating in water, with a flow guide placed a certain distance in front of the suction nozzle so that in operation a change in the water level is produced ahead of the nozzle. More esp. the flow guide is constructed as a strip-shape plate, the edges of which are bent over. Device ensures that in removal of oil from the surface, the amt of water drawn off by the suction nozzle, which would otherwise be excessive due to build-up of the level on the suction side of the screen is minimised.
