Abstract

The installation consists of two identical measuring tubes inside the ship, one fitted on each side of the ship's hull. The tubes may be valved off and they extend well above the waterline. Small accumulator tanks are fitted in the tubes and are connected to a supply of inert gas or an air supply at a regulated constant pressure at (6). Pressure isolating trip valves aresituated in the system at (8) in case of air or gas pressure failure. Differential pressure transducers (1) measure the air pressure change in the system. The pressure figure is translated into depth below waterline and read at the meter (18) by a digital conversion device (2).
