Abstract
Sediment is extracted when it arrives in a collector zone of the peripheral wall on separation from the mixture. It is separated from the wall and returned to the centre out of the liquid, and then projected by the centrifugal force against an inclined surface so as to be discharged axially. To give an additional drying effect the sediment can be projected centrifugally against an inclined filtration surface. Vaned wheels mounted inside the rotary centrifuge bowl rotate against its end wall about axes nearer to the peripheral wall than to the axis of rotation of the bowl, and are connected to a drive causing the vanes to scrape the peripheral wall.
