Abstract

A transmission is described whereby centrifugal force can be used to augment that normally transmitted. An externally threaded boss (3) can slide along a motor drive shaft but is constrained to rotate with the shaft by splines, the rotational drive is thus transmitted to the gear (4) on an output shaft. at the same time, sliding weights (1) on a rotating arm have their motion transmitted via a linkage (2) to the boss so that the centrifugal force increases the torque on the gear (4). The system is used for dynamos, pumps and similar devices.
