Abstract

The rotor (2) is mounted on the shaft (3) and rotates within the cylindrical housing (4). The periphery of the rotor is so shaped that chambers (5) (6) (7) and (8) are formed between the rotor and the housing (4). Sliding vanes (36) and (37) fit in radial slots (34) and (35) and are made to oscillate radially by axial projections which engage in grooves (23) and (24) formed in the end faces of the rotor (2). The combined effect of the rotation of the rotor (2) and the oscillation of the vanes (36) causes a mixture of air and fuel to be drawn in from the centre of the rotor compressed in the spaces (5) and (7) and expanded in the spaces (6) and (8) after ignition by the sparking plugs (32).
