Abstract

A gauge for checking the size and shape of glass sheets, esp. curved windscreens for motor vehicles, is made from a material which neither distorts nor twists, and contains a frame in which the glass is placed. The areas of the frame which come into contact with the glass and which are subjected to wear are coated with a wear-resistant material possessing a different colour to the frame, so that the wear of the coating is indicated by the changed of colour. The coating may consist of one or more layers but the top, wear-resistant layer pref. has a thickness appreciably less than the permissible tolerance of the gauge. The gauge is pref. made from a negative on which the wear-resistant coating is temporarily stuck and then transferred to the gauge. The coloured wear-resistant coating improves the life of the gauge and is self-indicative to gauge wear.
