Abstract

Polyesteramines with good affinity towards anionic dyes are prepd. by exchange reaction of a diol contg. is not 3 C atoms perf. 1,4-butane-diol, with the methyl ester of aromatic dicarboxylic acid, pref. terephthalic acid, opt. contg. is not >10 mol.% of methyl ester of aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, until is not 90 wt.% of the theoretical methanol content is displaced, adding a cpd. NR3 (I), and continuing reaction under vacuum until polycondensation is complete. In (I) R = alkyl, cyclane, cycloalkyl or arylaliphatic gps. which contain ester-forming gps. to an inclusive total is not >3; 2 R gps. may be cyclised together; is not >2 R gps. are cycloaliphatic or arylaliphatic with only 1 C atom between N and the ring cpd.; is not 3 C atoms are between N and the ester-forming gps. (I) is pref. a N,N-omega-dihydroxyalkylamine, e.g., N,N-di-(omega-hydroxyhexyl)-benzylamine and is used in proportion to give >0.03 wt.% (e.g., 0.05-0.5, pref. 0.05-0.13wt.% N2) on the polyesteramine. For melt-extrudable, spinnable polyester filaments and fibres and mouldable articles dyeable with anionic dyes. High tenacity, crease-resistance and flexibility are combined with good dyeability.
