Abstract

Adjacent tubular glass fibre reinforced plastics sections are secured together by providing an internal screw thread on the inner surface of one section and an external screw thread on the outer surface of the other section which is of smaller dia. Alternatively the outer surface of a smaller dia. section may have circumferential grooves allowing it to be force fitted into the bore of a larger dia adjacent section or an end cap. The method is cheaper than using existing methods which include attaching separate ferrules to the sections so that the ferrules can be telescopically engaged or screwed together. The threads or grooves may be formed by a die before the polymer from which the sections are made has fully hardened.
