Abstract

The shield (1) is made from a semi brittle material, either plastic or a metal such as aluminium alloy or mazak (RTM), and forms a hollow cylinder (2) with a thin top (4) closing one end. The outer diameter is constant to fit inside the fixing gun mandrel, the inner diameter varying to accommodate different diameter pins. On the outer surface, diametrically opposite, are two grooves (3) forming zones of weakness. The shield pushes over the threads, the inner diameter being smooth, and the assembly fitted into the gun. When fired the top is fractured and the sleeve breaks in two parts for easy removal.
