Abstract

The mixing tap (1) has a cylindrical bore (2) with a hot water inlet (3), cold water inlet (4) and mixed water outlet (5). The piston (6) is provided with three O-rings (8), (9) and (13). Between the O-rings (8) and (9) the diameter of the piston is reduced to form an annular groove (11) and immediately above the O-ring (9) there is a cut-out (10). In the position shown, hot water flows from the inlet (3) to outlet (5). Rotating the piston reduces the hot flow and increases the cold flow. Axial motion of the piston reduces the flow from both sources. As the O-ring (9) passes over the sharp edges of the inlet ports (2) and (3) the upward pressure of water prevents pinching of the O-ring.
