Abstract

The lid is particularly of sheet metal for use with canned drinks, have a closing plate formed from the cover and separated from it along most of its periphery, being hinged to it for the test. The edge of the plate extends beyond the inner edge of the opening in the cover and below it, so as to prevent outwards opening under internal pressure. The adjacent edges of plate and cover are flush with each other, fitting together closely or with a minimal gap between. The plate can be circular, being offset in relation to the cover centre, so that the hinge is the portion of the periphery nearest the centre. The join between edges of plate and cover can be stepped, each having narrow protrusions fitting one above the other, so that both the outside and the inside of cover and lid are flush.
