Abstract

An arrangement to improve the grip of vehicle wheels in adverse conditions includes a set of spring loaded spikes (2c) housed in tubes (2) attached to a frame (1), seared to the face of the wheel, which can be moved from a retracted position to a position in which the spikes extend radially outwards to dig into the ground. A spider (3) has pivot plates attached to its arms. The plates cause the spikes to project by their rocking action. In another design, stirrup devices which hook around the tyre can be extended in a similar way.
