Abstract

Control of the quality of the thermal treatment applied to products produced from a single fused mass, e.g. a series of glass bottles, by using a glass taken as a standard and determining its thermal history by establishing the correction to the refractive index or to the density as a function of the temperature, with values of these constants corresponding to different levels of thermal stabilisation,standardised values being obtained which indicate the degree of structure formation and homogeneity f the fused mass and which, when compared with the scale of standard values, permits the identification of the effective temperature level of the thermal treatment. The process permits comparative control of the results of applying a specific heat treatment, facilitates making rapid measurements during manufacture and enables better stabilised and more homogeneous products to be obtained while minimising loss of production caused by inadequate thermal treatment.
