Fire resistant material for building components, insulating bodies, coatings, and thermal screens for rockets, consists of (I) thermally expanded perlite and/or vermiculite, bonded together by (II) a melamine-formaldehyde or urea-formaldehyde condensate, the content of (I) being 60-85 vol.%. Product has high strength, low density and good dimensional stability under the action of heat.
