Abstract

The high-power battery charging circuit for groups of batteries driving electric vehicles etc. has its charging current regulated on the primary coil side of the power transformer. A uncontrolled rectifier connects the secondary coil to the actual charging circuitry. The primary coil side current regulator consists of a triac coupled in series with a protective inductor and resistor between one end of the primary winding and the switch, connected to the a.c. supply. The protective resistor is bridged by delayed contacts which close a given time after the supply switch has been operated. A capacitor bridges the triac and the inductor.
