Abstract
A comprehensive medical X-ray equipment is described in which the entire system is controlled by a doctor from a central console. A pre-chosen dose of X-rays is applied to the patient in a sequence of bursts and the results may be recorded on cassette film, large film, video tape or directly on a television screen according to action taken at the console. The X-rays after passing through the patient are converted to a light signal which passes down a beam, of which the strength is controlled by a photomultiplier system, to both a subsidiary camera and, via an adjustable aperture, to a video receiver which in turn transmits the signal either directly to a television screen, or to a video tape unit for storage. The doctor may display the picture on this screen and simultaneously on a neighbouring screen display a previous picture from the video tape, making comparison easy. The logical operation of the system, with the various switches required, is described.
