Abstract

A mixt. of 35-55 (wt)% acrylonitrile (I) 65-45% vinylidene chloride (II) and 0.5-5% (based on I+II) of an unsatd. sulphonic acid deriv. (III) is polymsd. by carrying out the reaction in an aq. methanol medium so that the reactn. mixt. comprises 13-55% monomers, 50-25% water and 37-20% methanol. The copolymers are also claimed. The prods. are soluble in a cetone at room temp. and can form solns. contg. =50% of the copolymer which can be spun under dry conditions by conventional methods. They have a high Cl content and good affinity for basic dyes.
