Abstract
The method of applying the coating depends largely on the matl of which the container is made, if glass, a silver film is deposited in the same way as for silvering a mirror. If a silver cpd. is used for forming the film it should be one which can combine with the sulphur present in the beer, as H2S or mercaptan, to form Ag2S. The metallic Ag or the Ag cpd., can be incorporated, as finely divided particles, in a coating lacquer; this should be so formulated to allow the harmful S cpds. to diffuse through the film to reach the Ag. The beer stored in the silver-lined containers is superior, w.r.t. taste and aroma, to that stored in normal barrels.
