Abstract

Appts. for surface coating hollow glass objects esp. bottles with SiCl2 vapour, comprising a tunnel over, a conveyor and a closed circuit supply of vapour has one vapour supply duct feeding the middle part of the tunnel by openings at the base of the lateral walls, so that the vapour contacts only the lower parts of the bottles. The coating reduces the chance of cracking by abrasion. By keeping it to the base of the glass vessels the chance of corrosion between coating and metal foil bottle cap is reduced.
