Abstract
Articles are treated with a molten coating material which is a hot melt thermoplastic material applied to the underside of a heat shrinkable flexible film. Application of such coatings is effected by clamping the support film, fusing the coating, and releasing the clamps to allow the support to contract about the target article before the melt layer chills sufficiently to become non adhesive. Esp. used for enclosing and sealing the ends of electric batteries against loss of water generated within the battery body during use. The close-fitting, long lasting adhesive seal between the support sleeve and the clad element eliminates the need for independent mechanical or elastomeric seal profiles etc.
