Abstract

The invention relates to methods for the adhesive bonding of other materials to vulcanised or unvulcanised rubber. The rubber used must contain an ethylene-propylene copolymer or terpolymer. In the first method described here, a primer is applied to the surface of the vulcanised or unvulcanised rubber to be bonded, and a film or coating of polyurethane is then applied to the surface treated in this way. In the other method described here, a primer is applied to a composition of synthetic thermoplastic resin and unvulcanised rubber of the type described, followed by a layer of a polyurethane adhesive and then, on this layer of polyurethane adhesive, the material to be bonded to the mixture of synthetic thermoplastic resin and rubber, the curing being carried out under pressure. In both cases, the primer used is an organic compound containing one or more groups of the formula &rdurule& N - X in which X is a halogen atom. The methods according to the invention allow a good and durable bond to be achieved in a simple and inexpensive manner between vulcanised and unvulcanised rubber and polyurethane or materials which can be bonded with the aid of a polyurethane adhesive.
