Abstract

A flattening device for a tubular fabric (e.g. a knitted hose) comprises a support over which the fabric passes, the support having a gradually widening entry zone where the fabric is threaded onto the support and a stretching zone where the fabric is held stretched laterally and therefore flattened. The support is provided in at least the stretching zone and/or the entry zone with moveable elements, pref. support rollers which engage the inner surface of the fabric. Pref. the fabric is subsequently pressed by calendar rolls and vapour treated in a relaxed state. The fabric is not pulled over the support and thereby not subjected to unwanted longitudinal stretching or to damage.
