Abstract

The web is drawn over a cylindrical roller, pref. two longitudinally curved rollers, and an inclinable roller by a drive roller, and a detector is provided to detect deformations of the web and (1) control the relative rotational speeds of the cylindrical roller and drive roller to apply a corrective tension to the web; and (2) control the inclinable of the inclinable roller to vary the path length travelled by each edge of the web. The knit or weave of a deformed web is re-aligned with minimum corrective force.
