Abstract

Still, is arranged so that the liq. to be distilled circulates in counter-current with the vapour; it consists of two parts (A, B) with pipes carrying the vapour and te liq. in opposite directions. Part B has two superimposed receptacles traversed by spiral coils; the lower receptacle has a principal coil and two auxiliary coils. the head and the tail prods. are condensed in the latter and are drawn off at at taps; the best alcohol, the principal prod. is drawn off at from the principal coil. The liq. to be distilled fills the lower receptacle; it passes via a connector to the upper recipient where it is progressively heated as it condenses the vapour in the coils. The heated liq. flows through a pipe to the directly fired still. This has an outlet for the exhausted liquor while the still is surmounted by a column of plates. The alcohol is removed from the hot liquor in the form of vapour which passes via a funnel to the pipe and the condensers. The amount of head-rrom required is reduced. A concn. of 70 GL of alcohol can be obtd. from light wines, ciders and distillers wash while the head and tail prods. are eliminated.
