Abstract

The ramp is manufactured from steel with a steel or wooden deck. The ramp is connected to the ground through a pneumatic jack which has vertical travel but can also accommodate angular movement. The ramp is fitted with wheels at each end. The platform end is weight loaded against the jack so that it has a horizontal travel of about 50cm. If a lorry backs onto the ramp, it need not back exactly into position, as the ramp has horizontal travel. The lorry may also push the ramp back without damage. The end of the ramp is maintained against the loading bay by a counterweight system.
