Abstract

An explosive cartridge casing is formed by introducing a paste of adhesive and cellulose and intro-cellulose fibres around a perforated former arranged within a housing lined with a cylindrical flexible membrane(s) and introducing a pressure fluid between the housing wall and the membrane so that the membrane presses the paste against the former and slopes it into a sleeve. The interior, of the former is simultaneously maintained at a reduced pressure to remove volatile components from the paste. The method is used for forming the casings of gun cartridges. The casing burns completely and doesn't heave to be ejected.
