- 1,3 is prepd. by condensation of isobutylene + HCHO in aq. soln. in presence of H2SO4. The aq. phase is recycled, the HCHO concn. being returned to the initial 30-60% after removal of the phase from the reaction zone by contact with gaseous HCHO.
