Abstract

N-substituted acrylamides are prepared in a continuous process by reaction of acrylonitrile, a secondary or tertiary alcohol or alkene and conc. H2SO4 in presence of a phenolic compound which inhibits polymerization of the product. Examples describe the production of N-isopropyl- and N-tert-butyl-acrylamides.
