Abstract

The domed unit is mounted on top of the blast furnace with two entry ports for the charge which travels down a funnel and into a rotatable chute. A hollow drum, made in two sections, is mounted in the dome, the lower section being supported by a gearwheel which can be driven by a motor via a redn. gear. When the lower section of the drum rotates, the delivery chute rotates with it due to a connecting pin linking the gear wheel with an idling ring which forms part of the tilting mechanism. This idling ring is supported on a bearing ring which hangs on two piston rods beneath two adjusting cylinders. When the bearing ring is lowered, a lever on the idling ring lowers a crank on the chute and vice versa, i.e. the chute can be tilted irrespective of the angle of rotation. All the moving parts are sealed between the drum and the outer shell, and a gas inlet and outlet is provided so that this annulus can be flushed, cleaned or protected with gas; there is also a manhole.
