Abstract
The gear train consists of a driving gear wheel, an idler gear and a driven gear wheel which is integral with the driven shaft. The shaft is drilled with a radial hole near the gear housing to take a dowel, fitted with a head at one end and a split pin at the other to keep it in position on the shaft. The split pin also holds a guide and helical spring. When the engine is slowing down and the gear lever is in neutral, the spring overcomes the centrifugal force on the dowel, and allows the split pin end of the dowel to rub off on the friction surface (15). This slows down the driven shaft. As the engine speed lip (one in gear) the spring is compressed and the rubbing surfaces part.
