Abstract

Press, for sealing together two glass panes, separated by an air gap and separator beams forming the periphery of the sheet, comprises two opposed platens larger than the sheet, each with a large number of pressing tools consisting of a ram with a rounded end in contact with the glass face. The upper rams are each forced towards the lower rams by hydraulic fluid passing through a channel with a flexible outer portion embedded inside the upper ram block. The system uses only one pressure unit giving constant pressure value rather than the large number of individual jacks employed previously, thus giving more uniform pressure.
