Abstract

Production of freeze-dried preparations of 2,2'-anhydro-1-beta-D-arabinofuranosylcytosine (cyclocytidine) (I) comprises freeze-drying an aqueous solution contg. (a) the compound (I) and (b) 0.1-5 wt.% of a saccharide, 0.1-5 wt.% of polyvinylpyrrolidone, 0.1-5 wt.% of sodium carboxymethylcellulose and/or 0.01-0.05 wt.% of a non-ionic wetting agent (percentages being based on the weight of (I) in the aqueous solution). (I) is an anticancer agent with low toxicity. The method gives freeze-dried preparations with improved solubility which give solutions suitable for parenteral (esp. subcutaneous, intramuscular or intravenous) administration. The preparations rapidly dissolve in water to give clear, concentrated solutions with excellent stability.
