Abstract

A pistol grip type fire hose nozzle is for use with high pressure water. The operating valve has balanced pressures on each side to give easy opening and closing. The valve (4) has a hollow stem communicating with a chamber (6) at the back of the nozzle body (1). Seals (7, 8) ensure leak proof operation. When the valve stem is pulled back, using the handle (9), water fills the chamber. Since pressure on both ends are equal, the valve stem is in equilibrium. Partly opening the valve gives a spray of water; opening it completely gives a jet; the spray being formed by a helical extension on the end of the hollow stem projecting into the outlet opening.
