Abstract
The parts are connected to a current source and heated in a vacuum or protective gas until the interface is just below the m.pt., then the parts are lightly pressed together. For welding Ni or Co alloy parts, the interface is heated to about 5% below the m.pt. using 10V and 103A/cm2 followed by application of 5-10 kp/mm2 pressure. Absence of a liq. phase and application of pressure prevent microrack fromation. Special surface prepn., other than oxide removal, is not required.
