Abstract
Base of a cavity tool for moulding plastics, esp. expanded polystyrene, is fitted with an ejector plug backed by a tube on a spring loaded base which can be moved by an ejector plate. The ejector plug accommodates a coaxial plunger which can be retracted, viz hydraulically. Retraction of the ram allows feedstock beads to be injected from a hopper via an oblique entry into the mouth of the ejector thrust tube. The ram housing and the entry tube move in common with the ejector tube. The ram movement and matl. injection may use a common pressure source. The device allows both injection and ejection to be effected coaxially w.r.t. the moulding, for symmetry of flow and balance of ejection forces, and provides an adequate injection gate and a relatively large ejection thrust area.
