Abstract

1353603 Injection moulding reinforced articles GKN SANKEY Ltd and ARO PLASTIC BUILDING SUPPLIES Ltd 4 Aug 1971 [5 May 1970] 21521/70 Heading B5A A method of moulding, e.g. window-frames, comprises locating a rigid reinforcement 40 in a mould cavity by means of pins 33 projecting into the cavity, injecting plastics material into the cavity to fill it, withdrawing the pins 33 and reducing the size of the cavity to cause the plastics material to fill the spaces formed by withdrawing the pins. The pins 33 are secured to sliders 35 having inclined bores 36 in which pins 37 are slidably received. The pins 37 are secured to blocks 38 connected to the pistonrods 39 of hydraulic jacks 13. When the blocks 38 are moved downwardly by the jacks 13 the sliders 35 will be moved apart, thus withdrawing the pins 33. During injection, clearance spaces 45, 46 are maintained between parts 19, 17 and 14 by means of wedge members 22. When the pins 33 are retracted, the wedge members 22 are also retracted by jacks 18, and the clearances 45, 46 disappear, whereby an upper die member 27 is moved towards a lower die member 28 and the size of the mould cavity is reduced. An ejector pin 30 operated by a jack (not shown) is used to support the reinforcement 40 when first placed in the mould.
