Abstract

The method has the advantage that is rapidly carried out and that traffic can continue to use the bridge while work proceeds. The method avoids the use of a temporary cable and also avoids putting any extra load on the old cable. The method consists of suspending the new full or partial cable above the existing one. The loads are then progressively transferred from the old cable to the new one. This is done by releasing the deck support rods and then clamping them on the new cable.
