Abstract

The internal surfaces of the utensils are coated with a porous to microporous enamel which is, or can be, filled with organic or inorganic substances, e.g. fat during the first use of the utensil, or before use with pref. inorganic substances such as silicones. The treated utensils have excellent non-stick props. with better hardness, heat-resistance, durability, and are cheaper than PTFE coatings. A steel utensil can be given a first coating internally and externally with an enamel of the usual type followed by e.g. an internal, porous coating of 100 pts. wt. each of an enamel slip (slurry) and aluminium powder. Alternatively, the porous coating may consist of (all pts. wt.) 100 enamel slip, 12 alumina, 8 quartz-flour, 2 suspension-agent, 4 graphite. The remaining, outer surfaces are then given a top coating of enamel. A single internal, porous coating and one outer coating may also be used. For aluminium utensils, a porous coating consists of an enamel contng. SiO2, TiO2, alkali metal oxides, Bi2O3 with possibly Al2O3, B2O3, SnO2 and oxides and oxides of Co, Ni, Mn, Cu, Fe.
