Abstract
Incoming effluent is injected with compressed air which expands it to a flocculant having a relative density 0.98 which is collected and used as a sludge bed through which the effluent is filtered and simultaneously superoxygenated by nascent, mol. oxygen from the sludge. Superoxygenated liq. which has passed through the sludge bed is ready for discharge into rivers etc., but a small proportion is recycled into the incoming effluent prior to aeration in order to accelerate the treatment rate. The plant offers a substantial throughput for its size and is of inexpensive construction and requires negligible maintenance.
