Abstract

Pourable solid material e.g. PVC powder is fed by a hopper to a series of vertical tubes located immediately above the roller gap. These tubes are fitted with vertical rams operated by eccentrics on an overhead shaft so that material is forced down and compressed in a conical space below the end of the tubes. The conical shape prevents upward movement when the rams lift. The pressure forces the material further down to meet the calender rollers which are set to a fine gap and thus produce a homogeneous mix.
