Abstract
This is performed by measuring or determining, pref. continuously, (a) the quantity of oxygen blown into the converter, (b) the rate of exit (DCO2) of CO2, (c) the concentration COc of CO in the gases as they leave the converter (d) the rate of decarbidation of the metal bath, analysing for (CO, CO2 and O2) and measuring the flow of gases across the collector hood, (e) the values of the factor XF, called "the measure of CO in the converter", where XF = CO c/ CO c + CO2 c where CO2 2 means concentration of CO2 in the gases as they leave the converter; and with the aid of the measurements (b), (c), (d), and (e), determining (f) the quantity of oxygen which combines the C of the metal bath, the quantity of oxygen which combines with the slag and the state of combustion of CO into CO2 in the converter; and as a result adjusting the quantities of : added materials, lance height, oxygen flows, in order rapidly to eliminate any deviation from predetermined values with respect to the desired steel quality and process productivity.
