Abstract

Equipment of the sleeve-filter type for removing dust from gases consists of a large number of small tubes (25-50 mm. dia., 750-1500 mm. long) in units which can be removed from the body of the filter without the need to enter it. The use of small tubes makes it necessary for the flow of dust laden gas to be from outside to inside the tube and that the clean gas leaves by one end of the tube. The tubes, of fabric or felt, are fixed at their upper open ends into a perforated plate, which is fitted into a vessel, forming a partition which divides the vessel into inlet and outlet sections. The blocks of tubes are suspended by shafts of controllable length fixed to the vessel and to the blocks by springs, a flexible sleeve ensuring gas-tight sepn. of the filters from the clean-air section. A vibratory motor is mounted on the perforated plate to shake the filters. Standard equipment for cleaning the filter tubes by counter current flow of gas is provided. Under each block of filters are rails on to which the block may be lowered, after disconnecting the flexible sleeve, by using the suspension devices. Opposite the filter blocks are doors in the vessel through which the block is withdrawn on the rails for dismantling.
