Abstract

The effluent is treated by (1) ion exchange in an acid cationic resin bed to fix cations and in a weak basic anionic bed to fix complex anionic cyanides and a strong basic anionic bed to fix CN, (2) dissolving an oxidising agent for the cyanide deposit in the cationic bed (3) regenerating the resins and destroying cyanides by strongly basic oxidation. The oxidising agent is a persulphate, monopersulphuric acid, H2O2 or Javel water. The use of oxidising agent in (2) prevents accumulation of cyanide deposits which increase CN- concn. and reduce efficiency. Use of the weak basic bed immediately after the cationic bed protects the strongly basic anionic bed from irreversible reaction with complex cyanides.
