Abstract

Ampoule is used in a special instrument and is operated by means of a compressed gas. It consists of a cylindrical press. bottle with a moveable piston which separates the liq. compartment from the gas compartment. The lower end of the bottle is closed by a rubber stopper. Finger grips are provided to facilitate and controlled forcing of the bottle in needle has two bevelled, spear-shaped ends as used in dental work and is fixed in the instrument by a rubber locking cone. The syringe assembly is intended for use once only. As the ampoule has no neck which has to be broken, there is no risk from glass fragments entering the patient's body. It can be operated almost in the horizontal position without any gas bubbles escaping into the patient's body. For use, the bottle is pushed, against the spring, in the direction of the needle so that the end opposite that which enters the patient penetrates through the stopper into the bottole. An opening communicating with the atmos. is thus established so that the gaseous phase, under press., propels the liq. through the needle into the patient.
