Abstract
Thin, layer dia, high surface finish, high parallelity metal disks are made using a solid cylindrical block with two optically ground absolutely parallel surfaces, which is first flash or vacuum coated with a thin conducting surface film on one surface on which a metal deposit of the required thickness is electrolytically deposited. The metal disk is then trepanned out from this deposit by a suitable tool producing a circumferential groove the depth of which equals the film thickness. The second optically ground surface is used as reference surface. The first film consists of Ag. The method is used for prodn. of video forming dies, which require extremely accurate metal disks.
