Abstract

As the drum rotates, successive screens become submerged in the liquor which flows through and away, leaving a layer of fibres on the screen. Eventually the cylinders re-emerge, by this time well coated with fibre. At the uppermost point of the cycle, the liquor exit port engages with an air supply. Inside the cylinder are longitudinal nozzles pointing towards the central axis which serve as liquor draw off devices and as blow back nozles and it is into these that the air blows. Also towards the top of the stroke, a cog on the shaft of the cylinders engage engage with teeth on the main drum support, causing the cylinders to rotate. Thus an air blast blows through the rotating cylinder and discharges the fibres into a screw conveyer mounted on the main drum axis below.
