Plant growth is regulated by applying to plants or to soil a plant growth regulating amt. of a cpd. formula (II) (where R is CHO, COOH or its alkali metal salt, aralkoxycarbonyl, hydroxyalkyl, carboxyalkyl, beta-carboxyvinyl, or beta-alkoxy-carbonylvinyl; R' is H, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, OH or halogen; R" is lower alkyl, NO2 or halogen; and n is 0, 1 or 2).
