Phenyl phosphonic acid dichloride is prepd. by oxidn. of phenyl dichlorophosphine and tolyl phosphonic acid dichloride from tolyl dichlorophosphine in inert solvent with b.pt. lower than prod. decompsn. temp. (methylene chloride). Reaction is rapid and proceeds at low temp. avoiding premature decompsn.
