Abstract

S is recovered from gas contg H2S and >1% hydrocarbon by first separately producing sulphur dioxide then mixing it with the gas contg H2S at 600-1800 degrees C in which temp range a partial dissociation of H2S occurs, then promoting the Claus reaction. The gas is then cooled to 300 degrees C to avoid onset of reverse the reaction, and liq. sulphur is recovered.
